In July 2025, catastrophic flash flooding along the Guadalupe River killed at least 135 people in Central Texas, in communities from Hunt and Kerrville to Comfort. A year later, in July 2026, flooding returned to the region, and extended as far west as Uvalde.

This series was photographed in the first days of each disaster, on assignment for Getty Images in 2025 and The Texas Tribune in 2026. It follows residents watching the water rise, rescue teams working the river, and the cleanup that began each time the water recedes.
